Tässä valmis ISE4-huivi, lähdössä kohti uutta kotiaan Atlantin toiselle puolle. Heippa huivi!

Here's my finished ISE4 scarf, ready to fly across the Atlantic. Bye scarf!



Lankana Merinosilk, n. 60 g (vaaka on jo pakattu muuttoa varten, joten tämä on hyvin karkea arvio). En myöskään muistanut mitata pingotetun huivin mittoja, mutta arvio on 20 cm x 180 cm. Mallikuvio on Feather and Fan, kolme toistoa.

Yarn: Grignasco Merinosilk, about 60 grams (I've already packed the scale so that's a very rough estimate). I also forgot to measure the blocked scarf, but it's about 20 cm x 180 cm. The pattern is Feather and Fan, three repeats.

Kiirettä on pitänyt, sillä muutto on edessä lauantaina. Käsitöitä en siis juurikaan ole ehtinyt tehdä. Lisäksi Toukalla on tulehdus molemmissa korvissa JA keuhkoputkessa ja olen itsekin taas hirveässä nuhassa... tietysti juuri kaiken raksa- ja muuttohässäkän keskellä.

I've been extremely busy as we're moving in our new home on Saturday. I haven't had any time to even think about knitting. The Toddler has infection in both ears AND bronchitis and I've got (for the millionth time this year) a cold. Naturally all this when we're supposed to be finishing the house and moving in!

Guess what I've been doing lately?

Juuri niin, maalannut. Tässä on talomme räystäslaudat.

Maalatessani mietiskelin asioita ja totesin--jälleen kerran--pitäväni käytännön hommista. Olen aina pitänyt laitteista ja vempeleistä. Olin kotiäitinä reilun vuoden ja totesin, että se ei sopinut minulle. Vauva oli itkuinen ja nukkui huonosti ja minä olin läpikotaisin uupunut. Töihin paluu oli helpotus, enkä enää häpeä myöntää sitä. Pidän työpaikkani ilmapiiristä ja tekniikasta, joka minua ympäröi siellä. Pidän manuaaleistani ja ohjelmista, joita käytän niiden luomiseen. Pidän siis työstäni. (Niille, jotka eivät minua tunne: Olen töissä dokumentointispesialistina ja kirjoitan käyttöohjeita yläilmakehän säähavaintoihin käytettäville järjestelmille ja laitteille.)

While painting, I started thinking--once againa--how much I like doing concrete stuff. I've always loved gadgets and all kinds of equipment. I tried the SAHM thing for a year and didn't enjoy it that much. With a fussy baby who barely slept, I was exhausted and felt like I never got anything done at all. Going back to work was a relief, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it any more! I love the atmosphere at work, I love the engineering stuff, I love my manuals and I love the SW I use on my computer. Did I tell you I enjoy my work? (For those of you who don't know me in person, I work as a doc specialist, writing user documentation for upper-air weather observation systems.)

My New Scarf

ISE-vaihtohuivini tuli Posti-Paten kyydissä jo viime perjantaina, mutta aivot ovat olleet täysin narikassa ja kamera töissä monta päivää. En viitsinyt kännykameralla tästä ihanuudesta kuvia ottaa, joten odottelin aivotoiminnan palautumista. Tänään sitten vihdoin muistin napata kamerani mukaan töistä lähtiessä.

I got my ISE scarf already last Friday, but I--silly me--left the camera at work and forgot to bring it home. I didn't want to take pictures with my cell phone because of the poor quality. Today I finally today managed to bring the camera home.

Monta pussia KoolAidia ja Fisherman's Woolia. Tuota lankaa en olekaan kokeillut aikaisemmin. Ajattelin koolata sitä ja ehkä neuloa siitä huivin ensi talveksi. Kiitos Judy!

KoolAid is pretty difficult to find here, I normally order it from the UK, so that was wonderful! I've never tried Fishermen's Wool before. I think I'll dye it with the KoolAid and maybe knit a scarf. Thank you, Judy!

Scarf Is Like a Favorite Piece of Jewelry

Olen taas käynyt ISE4-huivin kimppuun. Minulla on todella huono keskittymiskyky monen asian suhteen ja tälläkin hetkellä aivan liian monta projektia yhtä aikaa käynnistä. Paha minä.


I'm progressing with my ISE4 scarf. I'm really bad at concentrating on one thing at a time and am, once again, working on way too many things at the same time. Bad bad me.


Mutta kyllä se vielä valmistuu vaikka kuinka yrittää puikkojani vältellä!

Another Pair of Socks

Ystäväni tytär täytti kolme ja minä olen hänen virallinen sukkatätinsä. Niinpä tekaisin lahjaksi--yllätys, yllätys!--sukat. Sukan pitsimalli on Rainy Day Sockista. Kantapäänä tiimalasi.


A friend's daughter just turned 3 and I'm her official sock knitting auntie. So--suprise, suprise--she got a pair of socks. These socks feature the lace pattern from the Rainy Day Socks and a short row heel.
